13-year-old Jenny has no idea what happened to her mother, who was a scientist on an elephant sanctuary. 10 years ago, she went missing and no one went searching for her or reported her missing. After years and years of wondering where her mother went, Jenny finally decides to take the case into her own hands and search for her mother with the help of a physic and the retired cop from the now-closed case.
Could. Not. Stop. Reading. Jodi Picoult writes in a way that makes you want to never put the book down. I was able to read this book in 3 days, which is pretty fast for me! The reason why I loved this book so much was because it focused on the mystery of finding Jenny’s mother, but also focused on Jenny’s mother’s life before she disappeared. And let me tell you…her life was so interesting. She worked on an elephant sanctuary, so the amount of information about elephants in this book is mind-boggling. I now know so many fun facts about elephants. For example, did you know elephants get sunburned? That’s why they rub mud on themselves! Or that when an elephant dies, they have a mourning process just like humans? So interesting!
Jodi Picoult did an amazing job at keeping the mystery of Jenny’s mother a true mystery until the vey end of the book. I will warn you now, the ending of this book is not something you would expect at all. I was in complete shock because I was so sure that I knew the end of the book, but I was very wrong.
